Music and Laguna Beach

October 11, 2007

I’m learning about the music that works best for me when I am here at this computer. I put every CD I own that doesn’t suck (the rest went up for trade over at lala ) onto my old, pre-click wheel iPod, set up the entire smash onto one playlist, and run that on random play in my office. I use the Bose ring player, set on a towel, and it sounds good enough. I have stuff like West End Girls and Bibo No Aozora (Ryuichi Sakamoto), the Divas Exotica CD and Trance Electronica (head banging variety) to keep me going.

And today, I am also checking out embedding links in a post. Working within the WordPress format, I assume this will work, but count on nothing. I also assume that if I link to another blog in a post, that blog will hear about it. Again, I’m not counting on it and think I will/should/might notify them?

Ah, Van Morrison’s Spanish Steps from the Poetic Champions Compose CD just came on. I love that music. Reminds me of life on a pink cloud when I lived in Laguna Beach throughout the 80’s. Always I dream of going home again, and lying on the beach in the wind in November, waiting for a break in the swells to swim out to the reef and then along the coast up to Aliso Pier and back. The reef makes a noise all of its own, and you follow it when swimming so you don’t have to keep looking up to see where you are. And, following the reef is a good idea in case the fog comes in unnoticed. If you are swimming to the pier, you just turn right, coming back from the pier, turn left and follow you ears. Sounds easy, but the first time it happens, the panic can turn you around in the water so fast. Fortunately, Pacific Coast Hwy makes enough noise, that if you can still yourself, you can make it back to shore, I did.

Yes, music works for me. Which reminds me, I checked in on a blog called scrimblings. This blogger has been putting up clips of her favorite musics, and now I am a Brown Eyed Girls fan too.

From a List About Me

October 6, 2007

Taken from a list I started to get a feel for what the words will look like on the page:

10. I am learning everything I can about blogging (and internet presence) for a client and along the way I have found a passion.

11. I like to be very still and look at the sky, but not as often as when I lived in Laguna Beach.

12. When I lived in Laguna Beach, I watched Japanese TV. I liked the modern dramas best. I would entertain myself by filling in the dialogue (no subtitles) with plots centering around the dry cleaning.

13. As I retype this to an email blank, I think writing out the list long-hand worked really well for me, and retyping the list allowed an easy, light-handed edit.

14. I write/store a lot of my draft copy/web content in my draft email folder. This email is addressed to the name of the blog, and the subject - Master List: random facts/habits. It will sit in the Drafts folder until I process it for final use or maybe just continue to add to it.

15. I love colored pens and pencils and use them whenever I can. I always have at least one thin/medium/fat Sharpie, a red pen, a couple of mechanical pencils in super colors, and an ink and roller ball pen.

16. I work best with music. Music without words, and music without commercials. I also like variety while working. I tune out if the same style of music goes on more than 3 songs. Living with a hoarder (dear soul that he is) I have an unlimited supply of CDs to select music from for my iPod. My personal library consists of around 75 core CDs. In Search of Angels, Island by Hae, The Leaving Time, Carninval of the Animals, I think I like pretty music.

17. I have taken pics of my office. Before pics. I am stalling on the After Pics part. It occurs to me that I will take pics as I remove the layers of stuff, and then the piles of books, and it might make an interesting, fast-play slide show.

. . . and if anybody knows what a trackback is, and how it works, I would appreciate a share :>
